Ingredients

1 block of firm tofu

    ½ cup of all-purpose flour

      ½ cup of cornstarch

        1 teaspoon of garlic powder

          1 teaspoon of paprika

            ½ teaspoon of salt

              ¼ teaspoon of black pepper

                ½ cup of plant-based milk (such as soy or almond milk)

                  Vegetable oil for frying

                    Instructions 

                    • Begin by draining and pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Cut the tofu into small, bite-sized cubes, resembling popcorn kernels. Pat them dry with a kitchen towel.
                    • In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create a flavorful coating for the tofu.
                    • Dip each tofu cube into the plant-based milk, allowing any excess liquid to drip off. Then, coat the tofu in the flour mixture, ensuring it is evenly coated on all sides. This will create a crispy outer layer once fried.
                    • Heat vegetable oil in a deep saucepan or frying pan over medium-high heat. You'll want enough oil to submerge the tofu cubes fully. To test if the oil is hot enough, drop a small piece of tofu into the pan - if it sizzles and turns golden brown within seconds, the oil is ready.
                    • Carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them in batches if necessary. Allow the tofu to cook for about 3-4 minutes or until it turns a beautiful golden brown.
                    • Once the popcorn tofu is crispy and golden, remove it from the oil using a slotted spoon or tongs. Place the fried tofu on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
